Bronze
Useful Information
Our bronze is used in a wide and diverse range of market sectors, from general engineering to electrical and marine. It is also a key material in the manufacture of bushes and bearings.
Three main types of bronze are held in stock:
- Phosphor bronze
- Aluminium bronze
- Leaded bronze
Primarily used in applications where high resistance to wear and corrosion is an advantage, phosphor bronzes are alloys of tin and copper. They are known for their traditional bronze colouring and possess a medium level of strength. The wrought grades are available in round, square, hexagon, sheet, flat and plate.
Aluminium bronzes are alloys of aluminium and copper with the addition of nickel and iron. Overall, they possess greater levels of strength and corrosion resistance than the phosphor bronzes. Easy to form, they also offer higher resistance to wear under heavy loads. Aluminium bronze is more gold in colour and is available in round, hexagon and plate.
Our leaded gunmetal is strong, corrosion-resistant and easy to cast. It is available in both thick-walled tube and round bar.
